The Mustangs wrapped up regular season with a 42-0 shut-out over the Bridge City Cardinals.

The Cardinals looked like they were up for the challenge until Dontrey McClain picked off BC’s Ethan Oceguera in the first quarter. Elijah Gales, who finished the game with three touchdowns and 62 yards on seven carries, scored his first just four plays later. Gales scored again on a pass from quarterback Keyshawn Robinson and then again on a two yard run up the middle before the half. The Mustangs led, 21-0 heading in to the locker room.

With only seconds ticked off of the clock after the half, Jamaal Shaw took the ball and ran right through the Cardinal defense for a 52 yard touchdown.

The Cardinals had trouble with punts and the Mustangs definitely took advantage of it. Two touchdowns in the first half were set up by botched punts and the third came when Bryson Jordan got his hand on a punt and it fell into Carlton Simien, Jr’s hands. Simien scored his first varsity touchdown from 18 yards out.

Isaiah Thomas finished the scoring on a one yard run up the middle. Christian Quintero-Polio was six for six on PATs.

The Mustangs will face the La Marque Cougars Thursday night at Texan Drive Stadium as they head into the play-offs.
