Although the Hardin Jefferson Hawks showed life on the first play when they recovered their own onside kick, the Mustangs were the ones who outlived them and won their second district game of the season, 54-7. The Mustangs didn’t waste any time getting on the board and were able to finish the first half leading, 40-0.

Several young Mustangs put in playing time in the second half with Chris Jones and Terrious Foster seeing time at quarterback.

The Hawks capitalized on an interception late in the game to get on the board and ruin the shut out.

Senior Elijah Gales, who is working to break a career rushing yard record held by his coach, finished the game with 130 yards and scored on a 60 yard punt return.

Several Mustangs were able to rest and heal while others took their places. Quarterback Jayson Zeigler should be back this week, along with Carmello Jones. Quinton Walker and Evan Gray are still healing.

The Mustangs will face the Silsbee Tigers Friday at home. Silsbee is currently 2-3 overall and 1-1 in District.
